Takoyami: A Japanese restaurant opens its first restaurant in Calgary next month

Takoyami has been an incredibly popular Japanese street food concept in Calgary for over a year.

The team here operates out of a home kitchen, but in March they will open their first physical location.

Takoyaki is one of the most popular street foods in Japan that we don’t see very often here, and this place makes creating them an art.

Takoyami food consists of octopus dumplings prepared with dashi-infused batter which is then cooked in a specially designed molded pan.

The current menu is simple yet incredibly effective.

Orders of these savory and sweet octopus balls typically come with eight different pieces, but treats can also be grabbed with up to 42 pieces.

The classic order of takoyaki here comes with sauce, Japanese mayonnaise, corn, bonito flakes, nori, green onion and seaweed powder.

Different versions of takoyaki you can soon dive into include spicy, cheese, shrimp, and crab.

The ultimate here comes with all the good stuff, a two piece order of crab, octopus, meat, quail egg, prawns, cheese and sausage.

As the team moves into their first-ever dining venue, more menu items besides these much-loved favorites will be available to try.
