Food Review: Jypsy At One Fullerton

The place A beautiful new restaurant has opened at One Fullerton, jypsy. Previously located on Martin Road, Jypsy’s new space features an outdoor terrace that overlooks the Marina Bay. Inside, it’s a spacious and gorgeous combination of wooden furniture and hand-dyed fabrics, as well as neutral tones and indigo hues.

The outdoor outdoor setting is beautiful. Great spot for people watching where the Marina Bay area gets very busy with people in the evenings.

The food Jypsy’s cuisine is a contemporary take on traditional Japanese cuisine, with a varied menu. I started with some of the signature dishes such as Jypsy Salmon Tacos (S$16) and Nest of Fries. I like Nest of fries ($14)! You get a thick web of fries in an Instagrammable nest, an addictive snack to munch on as it pairs well with wasabi mayonnaise and balsamic teriyaki sauce.

The cocktail and drink list is also quite extensive, which is great for after-work drinks if you work in CBD.

For the sushi rolls, I had the Flambéed Wagyu Crispy Nigiri (S$21) with foie gras and black truffle sauce. Each roll is relatively huge, where you get a thick slice of beef over rice. It’s quite tasty on its own, even without soy sauce.

I also had the Aburi salmon belly roll (S$20) with toched salmon breast, jalapeño mayo and ikura. This has a slight tinge of spicy notes from the jalapeño, and you really can’t go wrong with the fresh salmon belly.

For something light, opt for the Snapper, salmon, scallop sashimi (S$26) with fresh lime ponzu. Three types of thinly sliced fresh sashimi, which is a good starter before large plates and cooked dishes.

For large plates, I had the Dripping Wagyu Beef Fried Rice (S$26), a new addition to the menu. You get slices of beef topped with rice, where the portion is good to share for two. That said, the fried rice could have been tastier and fragrant for me.

For dessert, I opted for the Jypsy Custard Pie (S$12) served with Hokkaido milk ice cream, which is pretty good. I love the taste of fresh milk ice cream.

Getting mad All in all, some hits and misses on the menu for me.

Will I come back? For its privileged location in town, the prices of dishes at Jypsy are quite affordable. This is a causal Japanese restaurant, so head here for a causal feast with friends or family. It’s also probably the perfect place to host your foreign friends.

This was an invitational tasting, although all opinions expressed are our own..
