Two big Los Angeles foodservice players are teaming up for what could be the most exciting new project of 2021. Philip Camino, the owner / operator behind a number of Fellow’s projects in Westwood at the Hudson in West Hollywood, s ‘is aligned alongside Michelin – featured Chef Shibumi David Schlosser for a brand new Japanese restaurant called Imari, and it looks to be ready this spring.
Imari will focus on Japanese cuisine, traditions and skills known as Washoku, a famous and UNESCO-recognized format often seen in Japanese culture during New Year celebrations. Schlosser has spent years learning and learning. cooking at reputable restaurants across Japan, as featured in a David Chang podcast episode several years ago. Japanese Derek Wilcox, a full-fledged sushi master who hails from New York’s famous Shoji and will be the chef at the new restaurant, joins him in the kitchen. Schlosser is the executive chef of Imari and will also continue to operate Shibumi.
The new Imari is slated to open this spring at 13050 San Vicente Boulevard, in the former Nagao space, which closed late last year after 22 years. Camino and his team are now busy transforming the space, hoping to open in just a few months. More on this to come.
